The architecture book that has affected me the most in recent years is "Pattern Language" by Christopher Alexander. It was written about 50 years back, but contains Architectural concepts that are as much relevant to today's buildings as when it was when it was first written. It truly is the timeless principles of Architecture the author claims they are.
Though the book has had its hey days in the years since it was published, it is a largely forgotten text these days by students of building architecture. No one can read the book and remain unchanged in their thinking of architecture. In the very least it provokes at least a number of "Aha" experiences. Certain concepts in Architecture which you instinctively felt was right, now you have a logical explanation, and more rigorous examination of the patterns.
Alexander collected over 250 patterns in "timeless architecture" as he termed it. This blog intends to concentrate on architectural patterns from Alexander's books and other patterns which I have observed from personal life which I think are relevant to today's architecture.
